MOSGIEL SCHOOL COMMITTEE
The monthly meeting of the Mosglel School Committee was presided over by Mr E. W. Cate (chairman). Accounts totalling £2B 3s 9d were passed for payment. ■ The application of the Mosgiel P.W.M.U. for the use of the school gardens for the annual garden fete was granted. In connection with the estimated cost of concreting the school yard (£400), it was decided to seek the aid of the member for the district to obtain a Government grant. The Mosgiel Ministers’ Association forwarded a donation of 200 New Testaments tor use in the primary department in the regular Bible instruction given at the school by members of the Ministers’ Association.—A letter of thanks to be forwarded. It was decided that sufficient money be subscribed by the members of the committee personally and out of the committee’s funds to provide some leaflets for use in the religious exercises. Mr Salrnond reported on the quarterly meeting of the School Committees’ Association. The business transacted had shown much enthusiasm on school matters by delegates. The Taieri Badminton Club thanked the committee for the allowance in rental of gymnasium.—Received. The Taieri Swimming Club acknowledged a donation from the committee towards "learn to swim ” expenses.—Received.
The senior - dental officer, Otago District, advised that Nurse Reynolds would be transferred to New Brighton.—Noted. A circular letter was read from the senior dental officer suggesting that British children arriving in the Dominion should receive free treatment within the scope of school dental clinics.—This suggestion was approved. The senior dental officer forwarded a memorandum to the effect that in cases where children had had no earlier opportunity of attending a dental clinic, and subsequently transfer to a school where a dental clinic was established, that a modification of the existing policy would apply in future. All such cases would be considered on their merits with a view to their inclusion ..wherever possible. In arriving at a decision, dental clinic committees would be consulted.—Noted.
The Department of Health forwarded a brief summary of the annual report of the Division of Dental Hygiene. The staff (including 156 student dental nurses) numbered 432; school clinics, 322; schools served, 1749; children under systematic treatment, 101,701; number of operations for year. 912,370; total operations since the Inception of the service, 8,463,189. —Nptpd.
