Mr J. A. Roy. M.P.. for Cl.utha, was a passenger for Wellington by the through express yesterday. Mr John Fisher, of. Otautau, was a passenger for Wellington by the through express from Invercargill yesterday.
Mr J. Flood, president and acting secretary of the New Zealand Waterside Workers’ Federation, left on his return to Wellington by the through express yesterday. The Rev. A. Macfarlane has left Mosgiel for chaplaincy duties at Trentham. Before his departure he was presented with a portable communion set.
Mr J. B. Thomson was a passenger by the through express from Invercargill yesterday on his way. to Christchurch to attend a meeting of the board of the New Zealand Trotting Association.
The Rev. L. H. Ker, at present Minister of Gonville', Wanganui, has been appointed to the Strath-Taien charge (Middlemarch) for five years. His mduction will probably take place early in November.
A Press Association cable message from London states that Mr Ormond Wilson, of Bulls, a former member, of the New' Zealand Parliament, married Miss Margery Helen Waco on September 29. Miss Waco is a Londoner, and is a 8.8. C. Empire talks organiser, A motion of sympathy with the relatives of*. Mr A. E. Jull, M.P., was carried at the meeting of the Bruce County Council yesterday, when speakers expressed appreciation of his services to the counties of New Zealand for the past 31 years, as chairman of the Counties’ Conference.
A British Official Wireless message states that the term of office of Sir Shenton Thomas, Governor and Com-mander-in-Chief of the .Straits Settlements and High Commissioner in the Malay States, which would normally have’ expired this year, has been extended.
The Rev. Dr Hunter has been granted leave of absence by the Presbytery of Dunedin from November to February to visit Australia, where he is to occupy the pulpit of Scots Church, Sydney, during December and January. The consecration and enthronement of the Rev. P. W. Stephenson as Bishop of Nelson will take place at the Nelson Cathedral on Friday, November I. The bishop-elect is expected to arrive in Nelson on October 23. He will be accompanied by his wife, but his family of two boys and a girl will remain in Australia to continue their education. Southland passengers by Union Airways on Monday were Mr F. Saxton. Mrs J. McAra. Mr J. McAra, Mr A W. Hawley and Miss M. Monk from Wellington. Northbound passengers by the plane yesterday included Mr J. AJordan for Wellington. Passengers by the southbound airliner yesterday were Mr McCabe. Miss J. H. Wales and Mr F. Scott-Miller'from Wellington, and Mr G. M. Black and Mr H. J. Hall from Christchurch.
