AWARD FOR BRAVERY

SCOUT SILVER CROSS RESCUE FROM DROWNING CHRISTCHURCH, Oct. I. The second highest award which can be won by a Boy Scout for bravery was presented this'evening to David Stanley McLenaghan, aged 13, of the Somerfield Scout Troop. This award of the Scout Silver Cross was presented in recognition of. the conspicuous gallantry shown by McLenaghan in rescuing another boy, Brian Spurr, from drowning in a tidal creek at Okains Bay on January 18. It was mentioned that McLenaghan had attempted to rescue three boys who had got into difficulties, arid, though almost exhausted by his efforts, he rescued one and applied resuscitation before going for further help.
