MR JULL AND MR ANSTEY TRIBUTES IN PARLIAMENT (From Our Parliamentary Reporter> WELLINGTON, Oct. 1. Tributes to the parliamentary service of Mr A. E. Jull. the sitting Opposition member for Waipawa. whose death occurred last week, and of Mr John Anstev, a member of the Legislative Council from 1907 to 1914, and Libera) member of the House of Representatives for Waitaki from 1914 to 1919. who died in August, were paid in the House to-dav, “The sudden death of Mr Jull came as a shock to every member of this House.” said the Prime Minister. Mr Fraser. “He had been a familiar figure in the local body and national life of the Dominion, When he entered Parliament he quickly showed his capacity as a keen debater, as a man who could analyse measures very incisively, while he had a sense of humour seldom surpassed in the House.” The Prime Minister said that Mr Jull had been held in the highest respect in his own district. His deeds were not advertised, but many members had came across instances where his generous hand had been held out to help unfortunate citizens.
The Leader of the Opposition. Mr A. Hamilton, said that Mr Jull had a record of service to Hawke’s Bay that had been equalled by few. and the province had lost one of its outstanding men.
The Prime Minister reviewed the career of Mr Anstey and described him as “ a robust and conscientious Radical.” Mr Hamilton said that Mr Anstev had been one of New Zealand's foundation citizens. As a mark of respect the House adjourned at 4.8 p.m. till 2.30 p.m. tomorrow.
