COLD TEMPERATURES v PREDICTED

Forecast for Otago.— The following official Weather forecast for Otago, covering the ensuing 24 hours, was issued at 5 p.m. yesterday by the Meteorological Office in Wellington:— ! Fresh to strong southerly winds. Weather unsettled in the east, with intermittent drizzle or rain and scattered showers elsewhere. Temperatures cold, with some snow on the high country. Seas moderate

to rather cough. Dominion Forecast.—-A cyclonic depression centred west of Taranaki is about to pass across the central provinces. An intense anti-cyclone covers south-eastern Australia, the highest pressures being found. in Tasmania. Weather unsettled with widespread rain and drizzle and with some heavy falls in central districts improving considerably during to-day on the west coast of the South Island and to some extent over the northern half of the North Island, but with passing showers in the latter area. Temperatures becoming colder generally with snow on the higher country of both islands.

Weather in Dunedin. —The weather in Dunedin yesterday was bright and fine, with occasional passing clouds, until the late afternoon when the sky became heavily overcast and rain commenced to fall. There was a moderate southwest breeze and the maximum temperature was 51 degrees. The barometer fell to 29.72 inches. (1006 millibars)'in the late afternoon, and then showed a rising tendency, the midnight reading being 29.81 inches (1009 millibars).
