CARGO FROM NEW YORK
RELAXATION OF PROCEDURE LICENCES FOR GOODS ON ARMADALE Advice has been received by the Dunedin Chamber of Commerce from the Minister of Customs (Mr W. Nash) that it has been decided to modify the procedure previously laid down to cover goods loaded on the Armadale at New York for admission to New Zealand under second period licences. The decision has been made after a review of all the circumstances and in the light of representations made to the Minister that hardship had been caused to importers as a result of the original decision. The Minister’s letter states that where- such goods have been endorsed against a third or fourth period licence held by an importer, a special fourth period licence will be issued to the value of the goods so endorsed if the importer considers that the balance remaining on his existing licences is in sufficient to cover his requirements for the remainder of 1940 Ih other cases where the importer held no licence in respect of the third or fourth period under which the goods could be entered and a special fourth period licence has accordingly been issued to cover the goods, on condition that the amount involved would be deducted from the importer’s allocation for the fifth or a subsequent period, the licence will not now be regarded as a charge against the allocation for a later period. In conclusion, the Minister advises importers who are affected to make application accordingly to the Customs Department.
