CLYDE Queen Carnival Tlie event of the past week was the Queen Carnival ball, which fully realised the expectations of the committee, the faking of something in the vicinity of £6O making a splendid effort. The presence of the Air Force Queen (Miss Mary Pratt) and her countesses was an added attraction. Miss Pratt delighted the dancers with singing and responded to numerous recalls. Farewell Evening Members of the local branch of the Returned Soldiers’ Association, the Bowling Club, and the Golf Club bade farewell on Friday evening to Mr E. W. George, the engineer-clerk of the Vincent County Council, who was leaving to join the Army Headquarters staff at Christchurch for the duration of the war. Mr George, a returned soldier, had been a very active member of the Returned Soldiers Association, and the other clubs associated with it at the function. Mr George was presented with a platinum wristlet watch and a further gift from the Returned Soldiers Association executive of a set of brushes, and the best wishes of the gathering were tendered tc him from a number of speakers. Mr George left for Christchurch on Saturday morning’s bus. Bowling * The bowling season will be commenced next Saturday, when the official opening of the centre will be held on the Alexandra green at 2.30 p.m. WANAKA Bowling Club Meeting At the annual meeting of the Wanaka Bowling Club the following officers were elected: Patrons, Messrs E. C. Hazlett and J, W. Smith; president, Mr J. Perrow; vice-presidents, Messrs R. Walker and F. Norris: secretary, Mr A. J. Mayne; selector. Mr F. Norris: green supervisor, Mr W. A. Sfudholme; green keeper, Mr A. Stuart: auditor. Mr R. Walker; committee —Messrs C. Ceilings, T. A. Tait, B. Ballantyne. R. Stevenson, W. A. Studholme, K. Davie, W. Robertson. The opening day was fixed for October 26. It was decided to enter for the centre competitions. SUTTON Lawn Tennis Club The annua! meeting of the Sutton Tennis Club was held on Saturday evening, when Mr Brain presided over a large attendance. The following committee was elected: —President, Miss I. Kidd; vice-presidents, Messrs G, Dawson and E. Burgess; secretary, Mr J. Palmer: treasurer. Miss M. Johnstone; committee —Misses D. Kinsman and O. Terry, and Messrs R Hamilton. R McDonald and P, Terry. The opening day was fixed for October 12. Opportunity was taken at this meeting to bid farewell to Mr and Mrs Brain, who are leaving the district, and to make a small presentation, with the good wishes of the club. OTUREHUA Patriotic Society At the September meeting of the Women's Committee of the Patriotic Society clothing for the Lady Galway Guild was handed in, together with six dozen books and a quantity of magazines for forwarding to the Returned Soldiers’ Association for the training camp libraries. Sea-bool stockings and scarves and mittens were completed, and £5 10s was given Cor Christmas parcels for overseas forces. Arrangements for an evening to be held on October 18 in aid of the Air Force Queen were made by the various committees. It was decided to ask the Countess of Maniototo, Miss N. Herlihy, to be present.
