A proposal that wire on abandoned runs should be made available for use on farms under development was discussed at a meeting of the Poverty Bay provincial executive of the Farmers’ Union recently. A letter from headquarters, in reply to an inquiry from Gisborne, stated that the Lands Department had indicated that it would consider an application in respect of such wire, which should be removed by the applicant, but it was found that on abandoned runs the wire was usually worthless. Members stated that much wire was lying idle on some coast properties and although no resolution was passed, it was suggested that any person requiring such wire. should get into touch with the union, which would do its best to cooperate in securing the wire.
