WEST HARBOUR BOROUGH
MONTHLY MEETING OF COUNCIL
The monthly meeting of the West Harbour Borough Council was held at Ravensbourne last night, there being present—The Mayor (Mr A. Smith), Crs P. H. Davis, F. H. Hudson, E. T. Monk, J. Robb, A. Macdonald, J. L. Page, F Mitchell. J. Coutts and J. Robertson. Correspondence
The district engineer, New Zealand Railways, .advised that work on the new road from Roseneath to Sawyers’ Bay would be expedited as much as possible, and that the hole at the Sawyers’ Bay station would receive attention at an early date.—lt was decided to advise the district railways engineer that, although a fortnight had elapsed since the receipt of his letter, the hole at Sawyers’ Bay still existed. G, Crosbie (Ravensbournfc) wrote complaining of the nuisance caused by the discharge of sept'ic tank effluent into street channels, and drew the council’s attention to several places in the borough where the provision of a few pipes to carry the discharge directly into the Harbour would improve the position.—The inspector reported that a number of the residents were using their septic tanks improperly, and were thus nullifying the effect of the tanks.—lt was decided to circularise the owners of septic tanks, drawing their attention to the regulations governing the proper use of the tanks. Refuse Removal The question of instituting a refuse removal service in the borough was briefly discussed, the principal point at issue being the advisability of establishing a sanitary rate for the purpose, and it was decided to hold the matter over until the following meeting of the council. Appointment of Ranger Mr .T. W. Findlator was appointed borough ranger.
