AIR RAID VICTIMS

BOMBING OF LONDON SOUTHLAND MUSICIAN’S LOSS (Special to Daily Times) INVERCARGILL. Sept. 30. Among the victims of Nazi air raids on London who have suffered loss from bombing is Mr Alan Tregohning, a young Southland pianist, who,has been studying music in London for about a year. Cabled advice has been received that he escaped unhurt, but that he lost all his possessions when a bomb struck his lodgings. The cablegram also included the information that he had succeeded in passing the L.R.A.M. Diploma examination. Mr Tregonning had a distinguished career in the study of music, gaining the diploma of L.R.S.M. at -the age of 17, and winning the Empire (Overseas) Scholarship of Trinity College cf Music, London, at examinations in 1939 at the age of 18. He went overseas about the middle of last year to take advantage of the free tuition offered. He was unfortunate to strike war conditions soon after his arrival in London, and. in addition to his studies h« undertook service in the air raid precautions. A few months ago he secured a post as sub-crganist at the Church of St. John -the Evangelist. Mr Tregonning's loss probably will include his substantial library of music, which will be costly and difficult to replace. His cablegram announced that he was leaving London for Cornwall.
