MILDER DAY TEMPERATURES Forecast for Otago.— The following official weather forecast for Otago, covering the ensuing 24 hours, was issued at 5 p.m. yesterday by the Meteorological Office in Wellington:— Light to moderate variable winds, southerly predominating. Weather fair to fine. Milder day temperatures, but cold at night. Seas slight to moderate. Dominion Forecast. —A trough of low pressure lies across the middle of the Dominion and is connected with vigorous disturbances centred near Chatham Island and in the north Tasman Sea. An anti-cyclone is centred over Tasmania. Weather mainly fair to fine in the southern half of the South Island. Elsewhere dull and, in places, misty, with scattered rain and rain later becoming more widespread. Some heavy falls probable in the next day or two chiefly in the North Island. Temperatures mild in the north, cold in the south, with some hard frosts at night inland in Canterbury, Otago and Southland. Weather in Dunedin.— The sun shone brightly yesterday though a moderate south-west wind brought passing clouds during the morning. Temperatures were generally cool, the maximum being 52 degrees. The barometer fell during the day but was rising in the evening at 30.00 inches (1016 millibars) . Barometer, inches and millibars: 8 a.m., 29.95 (1014); noon, 29.98 (1015); 6 p.m., 30.00 (1016); midnight, 30.00 (1016). Thermometer: 8 a.m., 43 degrees; noon. 50 degrees; 6 p.m., 48 degrees; midnight, 44 degrees. Maximum, 52 degrees; minimum, 41 degrees. Rainfall for 24 hours ended midnight yesterday—nil. Sunshine for 24 hours ended midnight yesterday: Before noon. 3hr 50min; after noon, shr 30min; total, 9hr 20min.
