LITTLEBOURNE HOUSE
CO THE EDITOR Sir. —On September 11 a letter appeared in your columns written by Miss Reynolds, stressing the suitability of the above property as a home for returned wounded soldiers. As a former inmate of Montecillo Home, I was very disappointed that Miss Reynolds’s letter was not followed by others. There could not be a more ideal home for wounded men. The cost of alterations to make it suitable lor a convalescent home would not be great. I am sure if Sir John Roberts were alive nothing would please him better than to see his old home used for this purpose. The present home, while it has many advantages, is far from the centre of the town, and in winter is very cold, as there is neither heating nor fires in the main building. Further, the recreation room is detached from the main building, and the inmates have to go out into the cold to get from one building to the other. When one is returning from town .in the evening or on a cold, bleak day, it is almost necessary to hire a taxi, as the home is so far from the tram car. Some of the funds that are now being raised could be put, to no better purpose than to equip Liltlebourne House as a home for wounded soldiers. I hope others will take this matter up, as there is no doubt that in the very near future more accommodation will be required for our wounded and sick soldiers, for at present. I understand, the Montecillo Home is full.—l am, etc.. Ex-ralient. Dunedin. September 28.
