BRITISH PORTS

BLOCKADE CLAIM REFUTED SUCCESS OF CONVOYS (British Official Wireless) RUGBY, Sept. 26. Despite the pronouncement of a total blockade by Germany, an unusually large amount of tonnage entered and cleared British ports during the first part of September. The losses suffered during this period, despite the enemy’s utmost endeavours, were onlv 2J per cent, of the tonnage involved. The fact that Britain increased its exports during the first part of September is regarded as evidence of the complete success of the convoy system, especially when it is realised that the convoys were under special difficulties as regards weather and light conditions during the summer months.
