MONTHLY COUNCIL MEETING The monthly meeting of the Waikouaiti County Council was held at Waikouaiti yesterday, when there were present Crs C. T. McCalium (in the chair), E. Laley, W. Lee, D. McLachlan, C. Robertson, and D. Young. Correspondence Mr R. T. Mlddleditch (Purakanui) wrote asking that road access be provided for five residents.—Left to the inspector to at Mrs l M° Louise Wilson (Karitane) wrote asking the council to put an obstruction on the bank at her property to prevent children from sliding down.— Received. Tiie secretary, Karitane Amenities society, wrote aski g for assistance in the erection of the wooden wall and esplanade along the estuary. It was suggested that scheme No. 13 labour might be procured. —The arrangements were left to the Inspector. , ...... Messrs Sievwright, James, and Nichol wrote advising that their client. Miss Burns, would agree to the road deviation at Burns bridge provided council paid the legal expenses.—Approved. The president, New Zealand Counties Association, wrote asking for a donation to the fund for the relief of air raid distress in England,—The sum of £lO was granted. The secretary, Air Force Queen Committee, wrote soliciting a donation to the carnival funds. —The matter was held over. Mr D. Macdonald, Waikouaiti, wrote complaining of the state of the road to his property —Left to the inspector tor a report. Mrs G. McKeown. Waitati, wrote complaining of the drainage running through her property. —Received. General In connection with the collection of non-ferrous waste metal, the council constituted itself a collecting committee in conjunction with the local Patriotic Council. Following a discussion of the recent wage increase granted to the men, the council decided to grant a bonus of £ls per annum to the clerk and the inspector, who were not included in the Arbitration Court’s award. The tender of Messrs Mulligan and Son (Oamaru) of £l7O 15s 2d for metalling Porteous road. Kilmog, was accepted.
