MONTHLY MEETING ' The monthly meeting of the committee of the Otago A. and P. Society was held on Thursday afternoon, and was attended by Messrs W. Lee (president, in the chair), J. Mitchell, R. T Kirk. D. G. Reid, W. H. Elliott, H. M Driver, J. Hellyer, A. H. Templeton, J. B. Blair, D. Ireland, J. R. Fairbairn, W. S. Thomson, R. Gawn, J. Allison, J. Young, K. Clark, D. McLeod. The Finance Committee recommended payment of accounts amounting to £659 Is 9d, and these were passed for payment.- The bank balance was £546, Os 8d in credit, and outstanding cheques amounted to £l3 7 S 6d. The lease of the seed store as drawn up by the society’s solicito was approved and signed. The lease of the show buildings for the wool season was approved. Tenders were received for. repairs at the Tahuna Park and Crawford street buildings, and referred -to the Grounds and Buildings Committee, with power to act. A letter was received irom the New Zealand Meat Producers’ Board asking if Otago would, be holding a district lamb competition. Mr K. Clark, of the New Zealand Refrigerating Company, said that his company. would be prepared to offer the society the usual facilities, but he doubted if there would be sufficient support to enable the competiticn to be run successfully. He suggested that the matter should be held over until the next meeting, and that full inquiries should be made in the meantime- to see what support would be forthcoming, and this suggestion was approved. The Navy Queen Committee was granted the use of the Agricultural Hall for an auction sale, and applications from both the Army and Navy Queen Committees for the use of Tahuna Park on dates during the last week of October were left to the secretary, with a recommendation that the Queen Committees be asked to amalgamate these fixtures and make one really attractive fixture on November 2. The prospectus for the shearing classes arranged by the Otago Primary Production Council was laid on the table, and members agreed to get in touch with any likely pupils in their districts.
