COMMUNITY SING

ARMY QUEEN DAY Over £4O was subscribed by patrons at the community sing held in the Strand Theatre yesterday, and the greater part of this amount will bo handed to the committee controlling the Army Queen in the Carnival. The rest will go for parcels for soldiers. There was an excellent attendance at the sing, the usual leaders, Messrs II P, Desmoulins, J. F, Himburg, H, Marsden and A. H. Pettitt, being in charge, Miss Mavis Macdonald’s Castilian Singers were popular in their numbers, “ Dream Sellers,” “ Nursery Rhymes ’ and “ Songs My Mother Taught Me.” Two Maori tikis made by a disabled soldier brought 15s and 10s respectively when sold at auction and a silver inkstand went for £5. Next week a combined sing will be hold for the Navy and Air Force Queens, and Miss Jessie McLennan and Miss Mary Pratt will be in attendance.
