DAFFODIL DAY

The daffodils of Wetherstones. which are now approaching their best, are promised to the Plunket Society for its Daffodil Day on October 4. These blooms gave the name to the society s street day many years ago. The proceeds. which it is hoped will reach £SOO. are to be entirely for the Dunedin branch. There are eight Plunket nurses. Th e cost of the branch to the Karitane-Harris Hospital is more than £SOOO annually, and of this the Government contributes one-third. The rest is met voluntarily. Any gift of flowers, produce, cakes, or eggs will be gratefully received. The following are the stall-holders: Manse street (in place of Exchange)— Mesdames Clapperton, Solomon. N. Speight, M. Hanan. and Jones; Bank of New Zealand—Mesdames J. Begg, J. M. Gallaway, Barnett, Caiman, and Miss Downie Stewart; City Hotel— Mesdames Cleghorn, D. Reid. Cunningham, and Misses Johnstone and Theomin; H.B. Corner—Lady Sidey, Mesdames Williams Cairney, Allan, and Paris; Neil’s Corner—Mesdames Mandeno, Dawson, Moody, Myers, and R. S. Black.

Add a little arrowroot to salt to prevent its caking in salt cellars.
