SPRING FLOWER SHOW

ST. PAUL'S CATHEDRAL AN ATTRACTIVE DISPLAY A small but notable collection of cut flowers and decorative exhibits attracted considerable attention when the St Paul's Cathedral held its annual spring flower show yesterday. Despite the fact that this show is held early in the new season, the standard of exhibits was remarkably high, and in some of the competitive entries outstanding skill and taste were displayed. Two special exhibits came in for much attention. They were a harvest basket entered bv Mrs Cruickshank. who had arranged a most attractive collection of flowers, herbs, eggs, bread rolls, fruit and a cauliflower, and a Japanese garden carried out by Miss B. Juriss with great artistry and ingenuity. Miss Juriss's attention to detail and the lay-out of the miniature garden came in for much favourable comment. Both entries were awarded special prizes. In the cut flowers, some beautiful spring blooms were displayed. The polyanthus and narcissi were of a high standard. Among the prize-winners were Mrs H. Price. Lady Sidey. Mrs T. P. McGowan. Mrs A. H. Warren, the Mayor (Mr A. H. Allen), Mrs A. H. Fisher, and Misses S. and W. Johnstone. A collection by children of not less than nine kinds of native flowers was won by Rachel Price, with Neil Wales second.

The competitive classes also attracted many good entries. The presentation box or basket of flowers and fruit was an excellent section, which was won b/y Susan Glendining, and a novelty exhibit by Mrs Tucker was another good effort. Prize-winners in the various competitions were Mrs Gerald Fitzgerald. Mrs Munro. Mrs Aitken, Mrs H. Price and St. Hilda's Collegiate School. Barbara and Helen Williams were the most successful children. The judges were Mr D. Tannock. Miss W. Johnstone and Mr J. Barling.
