In response to a request from the: DeDartment of Health, it was agreed that, in the case of British children transferred to the Dominion for the duration of the war, out-patient treatment at the bojard's hospitals be given free of charge. The Wanaka District Doctors' Club made application for a grant, of half the cost of painting the doctor's residence ~at Wanaka, the estimated cost being £SO.—A grant of £25 was agreed to, on condition that the Southland Hospital- Board makes a similar- contribution. The Otago- Hospital Board forwarded notifications of 7 patients from the Vincent Hospital district treated at Dunedin Hospital during the past month, viz.:— Four in-patients. 2 out-patients,; and 1 for X-ray examination. The matron of the Dunstan Hospital reported that for the month of August, 15 patients were admitted, 14 discharged, one death had occurred.'and 16,patients remained in hospital at the end .'6f the month. Members of the staff /due for annual leave had been unable to go off owing to the difficulty of getting; anyone for relieving work. to the hospital electrical installation had been completed, and the formation of lawn and paths around the Nurses' Home "were being carried out. - ••■ ■-,'! ■.- .'. - The matron of the Cromwell Hospital reported that S 3 patients ,had been admitted during August, 31 discharged, 1 death had occurred, and 25 patients remained in hospital at the end of the month. Nurse W. S. McKenzie had- resigned, and was leaving at the end of September. -."".. In connection with the drainage at Cromwell Hospital, the board's architects reported that, oh the recommendation ot the health inspector, it had been decided to construct new soak-pits. Two-new pits had been dug, one of which was down 23ft in compact gravel and silt, and • the other 15Jft in a fine but loose gravel. In view of the nature of the ground-the health inspector had recommended putting In a humus tank. This had been provided, and it was now considered that no further trouble with: the drainage would be experienced.

On the eve of his departure from Alexandra, it was unanimously decided to place on record the board's i appreciation of the long services rendered in the Vincent district by Dr Gladstone.
