"THE FORGOTTEN LEGION"
TO THE EDITOB
Sir, —Your correspondent " Forgotten," who refuses to be corrected by those with inside personal knowledge of the subject concerning the public service and the Government, has at the present time a golden opportunity to test his theory that the Government will yield to voting power. I think it will be agreed by many that the political situation as it has developed to date is no longer a question of Labour v. Nationalist, but of trade unionism v. the rest of the people. What would be simpler than for the " rest" to organise as a non-party body to support candidates for Parliament pledged to support their rights? If the public service proves to be only half as formidable in voting power as " Forgotten " seems to think, its members, together with the "Forgotten Legion " and the " rest" of the " outs." should be able to secure something nearer equity than is at present obtainable. The formation of two new political parties which is proceeding at present seems to indicate that the time is favourable for such a move.— I am, etc.. Public Servant. Dunedin. Sept. 26.
