FEDERAL ELECTION
THE PREFERENCE VOTES FAVOURING THE GOVERNMENT SYDNEY, Sept. 26. (Received Sept. 26, at 11.30 p.m.) The latest development in the Federal elections is the good progress being made by Government candidates in the doubtful seats, where the distribution of preferences is favouring them in most of the 15 doubtful seats. It is now predicted that the Menzies Government will be returned with almost the same majority as in the last Parliament—42 to 32—and a very slender majority of about three in the Senate.
