ACTION SUSPENDED
RADIO LISTENERS’ LEAGUE RESULT OF WAR CONDITIONS As a result of war conditions, the Otago Radio Listeners’ League decided, at its annual meeting last night, to suspend activities until the date of the next annual meeting, which is to be held not later than the end of April, 1941. The position is then to be reviewed further, but power was given for the calling of a special meeting before that time if necessary. ~ , , . The president, Mr M. Connelly, told a small attendance, when moving the adoption of the annual report and balance sheet, that, owing to the outbreak of war, the activities of the league had been very much restricted during the past tew months. As a result, the number of financial members had been reduced this year to 520, but he pointed out that, while the membership had at one time been as high as 5000 or 6000, it had also been as low as 80. There was a balance in the bank of £2l 17s 3d. '■ I firmly believe there is a place in New Zealand for a live and healthy listeners’ organisation,” Mr Connelly concluded, “and that when a more favourable time comes the league will function as a potent force in representing the views of listeners.”
Office-bearers were elected as follows: — President, Mr M. Connelly, M.L.C.; vicepresident. Mr M. Fraser: secretary and treasurer, Mr H. Booth; hon. solicitor, Mr T. O’Shea; committee —Messrs J. Edmond, W. Lovell. W. W. Watt: R. Strong, and R. Matheson.
