A cordial welcome was given to the president of the Waipahi Institute (Mrs Gumming) on her return from an extended holiday. A bring-and-buy sale was held at the meeting, and funds will be helped considerably. A display of old lace was held, and some beautiful pieces were shown. The hostesses were Mrs Sparks and Miss Brown.

At the monthly meeting of the Waiareka Institute items were given by the Glee Club. Knitting and refugee clothing were received for the Red Cross. The competitions resulted:— Bloom—Mrs Hinkley 1, Mesdames Watson and Milne (equal) 2, Mrs Lauder 4. Vase of flowers—Mrs Watson 1, Mrs Milne 2, Mrs Hinkley 3. Bran biscuits—Mesdames Dowthwaite and Hinkley (equal) 1, Mrs Watson 3, Mesdames Lauder and P. Macintosh (equal) 4. .y. * *

The monthly meeting of the Heriot Institute was held on Thursday last, Mrs Adams presiding. The motto was, “ Good intentions may be good nails to use, but they need the hammer of determination to drive them in and the roll call. “A good deed I have received this month.” The competitions resulted: Home-made buttons—Mrs Sharp 1, Mrs Herbert 2. Bloom—Mrs King and T'~s Herbert (equal) 1, Mrs Sim 3. Mrs Sim gave an interesting demonstration on “ crocheted coat-hangers.” The members of the Junior Homemakers’ Club entertained the institute with two songs. The hostesses were Mesdames M. Kempthorne, Haugh, and Herbert, and Miss L. Moncur.
