SEVEN-A-SIDE TOURNAMENT CLUB DAY ON SATURDAY A meeting last evening of the Management Committer ol the Otago Rugby Union, over which Mr D. C. Jolly presided, completed arrangements for a ssven-a-side tournament on Saturday in aid ox the funds of the clubs that are taking part. An entry of 31 teams was received for the three grades. The First Grade matches will all be played at Carisbrook, but some of the preliminaries in the Second and Third Grade competitions will be played at Bathgate Park. The firs; round of the First Grade is as follows: —Pirates v. Dunedin, Union v. Zingari-Richmond Alhambra v. Southern. University v. Taieri, The Second Grade entry comprises Taieri, University Southern, Alhambra, Training College, West Taieri, Port Chalmers. Union. Pirates Dunedin and Air Force. The Third Grade teams are Ravensbourne. Alhambra, Kaikorai. ZingariRichmond. Dunedin, Southern, Pirates, Union. Port Chalmers. King's High School and Green Island. The referees for Carisbrook are Messrs J. B. Burton. S. Gibson, D. A. Kilgour. S. J. McConnell, E. Heather, and A. Parker. Messrs J. Simon, J. Frood,, G. Li tie, and A Garside will refere at Bathgate Park. Winners Declared On the recommendation of the Flag Committee, the Third Grade competition was declared closed, with Kaikorai the winner by two points from Pirates. The Fifth Grade competition also was closed, with Kaikorai the winner by two points from Southern, Alhambra, and Port Chalmers. The closing of these two competitions completes the grade programme for the season. An Invitation Declined The meeting considered a suggestion that a team of members of the union should play an Otago Basketball Association team at basketball as part of the programme of a gala day in aid of the 'Queen Carnival at the Caledonian Ground on Saturday, October 5, The opinion was general that most of the members were "past that sort of thing now," and the invitation was passed on to the Referees' Association. A Rugby match is to be played between teams of women basketball and hockey players, and the secretary (Mr E. S.-Wilson) reported that a highly-attractive programme was being organised. Army Queen Fund Match A letter from the Public Service Queen Committee thanked the union for its assistance in the organising of the Queen Carnival match between the Public Service team and University A last Saturday. It was stated that the Army Queen Fund would benefit to the extent of nearly £ 150 as a result of the match.
