WRESTLING

TO-NIGHT'S ENCOUNTER li is obvious it is not going to be easy to deprive John Katan of the British Empire professional heavyweight wrestling title, the task which Earl McCready is to undertake at the Town Hall to-night. Katan won the title by intelligent wrestling and deKe pursued McCready until he caught up with him in this country and took the title from him, and then, when he had lost it to Blomfield in a match with which he was by no means satisfied, he would not rest until he had secured his revenge —and the title. While Blomfield was holding the title, Katan was beaten by McCready for the only time this season, and consequently there was some doubt as to how he would fare when he faced his countryman in n challenge bout at Wellington. Katan, however, showed that as champion h is a different proposition altogether, and the defence he put up was more than even MnCrcnd.v could penetrate. McCREADY BEATS BLOMFIELD (Per United Press Association) WELLINGTON, Sept. 23. Earl McCready to-night won an unimpressive wrestling bout against Lofty Blomfield on points, one fall each. Blomfield took a fall in the second round with an octopus clamp. McCready scored in the seventh round, pinning Blomfield with a jack-knife. Although there was a good deal of clean, straight wrestling the bout was marked by few spectacular episodes.
