Mrs Campbell presided at the monthly meeting of the Herbert branch, when it was decided to support the fighting planes fund, and to send a parcel to the lepers in October. The competitions resulted: Jam sponge roll—Mrs E. J. Hill 1, Miss Irvine 2. Spring flowers —Mesdames Gerrie and Freeman (equal) 1, Mrs J. E. Hill 3. Single bloom—Mesdames J. E. Hill and Gerrie (equal) 1, Mesdames Thomson and Beckingsale (equal) 3. Mrs Hawkes. of Waianakarua, gave an interesting demonstration on tatting. * * #
Mrs W. tlarvey presided at the monthly meeting of the Weston branch. Members signified their willingness to assist at the patriotic gala on October 5, and the branch also contributed £lO 7s 6d to the aeroplane fund. The roll call was "Your Chris*ian Name, and why you were called it." Mrs W, Laney gave a talk on knitting hints. The competitions resulted: Posy of flowers —Mrs A. Harvey 1, Mesdames Laney. Innes and J. Mitchell (equal) 2. Bloom—Mrs Innes 1. Mrs W. Harvey 2. Mrs Innes was in charge of the social half-hour, and Mrs Third and Miss Allan were the hostesses.
The monthly meeting of the Clyde branch was held on Friday last, when Mrs A. Aitken presided. A collection was taken up for the Makogai Leper Fund. It was decided to make a donation to the Flock House Rest Home. The sum of £8 was collected and forwarded to the Fighter Fund. Interesting talks were given on the rearing of poultry, by Mesdames W. T. Campbell. D. Gillies, and A. Aitken.
The September meeting of the Waikoikoi branch was held in the hall on Tuesday evening, when Mrs W. J. McKenzie presided. The roll call was, " Spring-cleaning hint" Mrs M. Stark gave another interesting talk on hygiene. Miss E. McKenzie's competition—" Part of the Body " was won by Mrs F. Spittle. A demonstration on how to decorate a clear glass dish was given by Mrs J. Lindsay. The competitions for the month resulted:—Oven scones—Mrs W. J. McKenzie 1, Miss C. McCall 2, Mrs D. The Ettrick branch met on Tuesday, when Mrs C. P. Hainsworth gave an interesting talk on the " Women's Section at the Centennial Exhibition." The hostesses were Mesdames Watt and Leslie.
The monthly meeting of the Dunedin branch was held on Tuesday at the home of Mrs H. S. Reid. Some knitted garments were handed in for the minesweepers around the New Zealand coast. It was decided to give one Christmas parcel for the soldiers. Donations were received for Christmas parcels for the minesweepers and members of the New Zealand Navy, and a sum of £2 13s was also collected towards a fighting plane, which is to be a gift from all members of the Women's Division.
Mrs A. J. Bell presided over the monthly meeting of the Clutha branch and welcomed a new member. Mrs Throp and Miss Allison represented the branch at the intercessory service. Opportunity was taken to bid farewell to Mrs J. P Boyd, who received a spray of spring flowers together with the good wishes of her fellow-members. The social item was in the hands of Mrs W. E. Moffatt and Mrs J. C. Anderson, who read most effectively the members' contributions to the branch journal. The hostesses were Mrs Max,well and Miss Allison.
The September meeting of the Lauder-Becks branch was held on Wednesday at the home of Mrs Hoskin, Mrs Hamilton presiding. A parcel of goods from the disabled soldiers met with a ready sale. During the social hour a competition was won by Mrs Hoskin, Mrs A. Brown being second and Mrs Wade third. The hostesses were Mesdames Hamilton and A. Brown.
The September meeting of the Owaka branch was held on Thursday last, Mrs Holland presiding The roll call was " What would you do with £500?" Members from surrounding branches were present to hear Mrs H.c!tr.b, the executive member for the district, give a talk on executive business
