A LABOUR DAY OUTING

TO THE EDITOR Sir,—As I understand Labour Day is to be observed as a public holiday. I would like to make a suggestion to the Railways Department that it run a fast excursion train on the Monday October 28. not on the Sunday. A lot of people do object to Sunday trains, especially while the war is on We are asking people to go to church, and we cannot expect God to help us if we go picnicking on the Sunday. But I do think if a train were run to Tahakopa or Owaka, or perhaps Timaru, it would be well patronised provided it did not leave too early—.say, 8 a.m. I am sure there would be crowds anxious to have a day in the bush away from the city. Hoping my suggestion will be made use of. as I myself could get a party of 12.—1 am, etc., Day In the Country. Dunedin, Sept. 21.
