SCHOOL IN THE SIXTIES
rO THE EDITOB Sir, —Please allow me space in your paper to correct a statement in this morning's Daily Times about the late Mr Hugh Nelson's schooldays. Your obituary notice said he went to school at Stoney Creek. Now the only buildings at Stoney Creek were the toll gate kept by my father. Mr Alex. S. Wilson, and Mr Rae's hotel. The school was at Hillend, three miles away and a mile off the main road. Mr Nelson, along with the Camerons and Mr .Harry Pink, had five miles to go to school from Lovell's Flat. From the main road to Hillend School we had to go through tussocks as there was no road formed. Sometimes we were over the boot tops in water and snow. I can remember Mr Nelson well. That was in the years 1868 to 1871 Hoping there are some of my old school mates still living who can substantiate my statement.—l am. etc.. Peter A. N. Wilson. Evansdale, Sept. 20.
