QUEEN CARNIVAL

THIS WEEK'S ATTRACTIONS "HOBO" BALL IN TOWN HALL ANOTHER MYSTERY BAG' DAY The Army Queen Committee has two main attractions arranged for this week —the "hobo" ball in the Main Town Hall to-morrow night and the Mystery Bag Day on Friday. There will be a number of special prizes, including a gas cooker and other utilities equally valuable.

The Army Queen Committee has just launched an attractive art union with a Morris 8 car as first prize. £SO worth of Self Help groceries as second prize, a fur coat as third, and an electric range, a gas range and an electric sewing machine as fourth, fifth and sixth prizes respectively. The tickets are being sold at 6d. Navy Activities On Thursday, in the Port Chalmers Town Hall, a concert will be held in aid of the Navy Queen. The whole district is behind the effort, and the concert promises to be the event of the year. The Navy Committee is also conducting an art union, the first prize for which is an Austin Ten car. Tickets are now available at navy headquarters and stalls. There is also the utility art union. The prizes range from an electric range; free passes on trams, to miscellaneous electric goods The tickets in these art unions are being sold at 6d. Articles of household use, furniture, etc. are required for the auction sale, and donations will be gratefully received at Navv headquarters. 144 George street Phone 11-743. and the committee will collect donations. The "dug-out" in the Octagon Is open daily from noon till 5 p.m. Yesterdav the staff of Messrs Arthur Barnett, Ltd.. was in charge, and to-dav it. will be the turn of Miss Duncan s team. Mock Court When the mock court was held on Friday some of the defendants were out of town. These are requested to send in their fines to the judge, care of the Commercial Travellers' Club. In view of the nature of the appeal an unorthodox method is being adopted in that the amount of the fine is being left to the defendant to assess. ■; Straight-out Donations The executive is appealing for straight-out donations to the Queen Carnival Fund. • Donations will be gratefully received by the honorary secretary.
