Mr S. Ritchie, conciliation commissioner, arrived in Dunedin yesterday morning.
Mr F. C. Scrivener left for Wellington yesterday morning. Mr James Milne was a passenger for Wellington by the express yesterday.
Messrs F. N. Binney and J. J. Paul were last night elected life members of the Albion Cricket Club. Constable C. A. Hedwig, who has been transferred to the detective office at Wellington, left for the north yesterday.
Mr Sydney Tombs, is at present visiting Dunedin in connection with the screening of "Talking Feet" a) the St. James Theatre on Friday. Lieutenant-colonel A. Cowles, president of the Wellington Returned Soldiers' Association, has been appointed secretary and organiser of the Wellington Home Guard Committee. Mr L. Stewart, who has been on the staff at St. Andrew's College. Christchurch, for about 20 years will be headmaster during the absence of Lieu-tenant-colonel J. B. Mawson in the military forces. Mr Stewart served with the Royal Air Force ir. the Great War.
The following passengers arrived by the plane from the north yesterday afternoon:—Mr W. A. Simpson and Mrs F. O. Mac Gibbon, from Wellington; Mrs L. M. Moss, from New Plymouth; Mrs R. BuUer. and Mr G Sevicke Jones. from Christchurch. The Gazette announces the transfer of Captain D. C. W. Cossgrove, New Zealand temporary staff, officer in charge of Sick and Wounded Records for the Southern Military District, to a similar position at. Army Headquarters Wellington. Warrant-officer Staff Sergeant-major R. W. Borland has been promoted to be second-lieutenant, and will take charge of the sick and wounded records at Southern Military District Headquarters. Christchurch. Mr John Ball, who has been associated with radio broadcasting in New Zealand almost from its inception, has retired on supefannuati n. Formerly editor of the Wanganui Chronicle. Mr Ball became an announcer at the new 2YA Station in the middle of 1927 when the Radio Broadcasting Company of New Zealand, Ltd., controlled the service, and for a while he was in the head office of the company at Christchurch. When the Broadcasting Board astumed control in 1932 Mr Ball was station manager at 2YA, and he retained that position until his retirement.
