MOSGIEL WINS FLETCHER CUP NORTHERN RUNNER-UP In the final game of the Otago Football Association's Fletcher Cup Competition, played on Saturday, Mosgiel drew with Roslyn-Wakari, two-all, the result placing Mosgiel o" top six points ahead of Northern, the runner-up. Mosgiel has no\y won the Fletcher Cup for four years in succession. The Andrew Brown Cup match between Northern and Maori Hill, resulted in a win for the former by five goals to nil, and High School Old Boys secured the Thorn Shield by defeating Caversham by 4 goals to 3, after extra time was played. ROSLYN-WAKARI v. MOSGIEL The game between Roslyn-Wakari and Mosgiel was played at Ellis Park, both teams being short for a period of 10 minutes. Mosgiel was the first to score, a snap cross by Steven being nicely picked up by Rogers, who beat Harbourne with an easy shot. For a period, Roslyn kept Mosgiel on defence, and, while Mills saved some good shots, the Roslyn forwards generally showed poor finish. Mills brought off a great save from a penalty kick taken by Rutherford. Rogers next scored, following a pass by Davidson, but Roslyn rallied, and combined play resulted in Chisholm beating Mills with a low drive. Even play followed until half time without further change in the score.

The second spell opened with Mosgiel attacking, Harbourne making timely saves from Skinner and Davidson. Roslyn then missed a chance, when Mills miskicked. Play was fast and open, with neither side having the advantage, until a sustained attack by Roslyn in which Chisholm, Rutherford, and Ramsay were prominent, enabled the latter to beat Mills with a good shot. Mosgiel pressed for a period, but the hill team's defence held with Wilson and Simpson doing sound work. During the final stages play was in favour of Roslyn, but the forwards failed to pierce the defence, and a fast and exciting game ended:— Roslyn-Wakari .. 2 goals. Mosgiel 2'goals.. Mr W. M. Smith was referee.
