HOBO BALL
An important date in the queen carnival calendar will be Wednesday evening next, when a hobo ball" will be held in 'he Main Town Hall to support the Army Queen for patriotic funds. Everyone will be dressed in something mccuresque for the occasion. Hobos, tramps, and ne’er-do-wells are people who can wear anything that does not look new, and so the women will nave a wide and fascinating field from which to choose They can cut and patch their summer frocks in spectacular fashion, or go as simple peasants or dancing ladies of a thousand different types native or European, Tickets can be obtained from Jacobs’s or the D.I.C. or from members of the committee. The monthly meeting of the Green Island Institute was held on Tuesday, Mrs Robinson presiding. The roll call was a school-boy howler. Mr W. W. Bridgman, M.A.. gave his impression of life in New York, and read extracts from books by a modern writer, on types of individuals to be met living in New York. The market-table was again well patronised. The hostesses were, Mesdames Richardson, Penson. Bell Srnellie. and Misses McLean and Kirkland. •
