STAFF TALKS

DEFENCE OF TWO DOMINIONS NEW ZEALAND CHIEFS IN AUSTRALIA (Per United Press Association) WELLINGTON. Sept.. 19. The Minister of Defence, Mr F. Jones, in an interview to-day, said that the proposal that staff talks should be held between the chiefs of the New Zealand naval, genera! and air staffs and the chiefs of the respective Australian staffs was approved recently by the Government, and agreed to by the Commonwealth Government. “The purpose of these talks is to allow informal but full discussions on all matters of defence. Major-general Sir John Duigan and Group-captain W. L. Saunders, Chief of the Air Staff, left New Zealand on Tuesday last for Melbourne, where they have now arrived. “ Commodore W. E. Parry. Chief of the Naval Staff, took the opportunity, when in Australia recently, of discussing with the Chief of the Commonwealth Naval Staff all matters of common concern regarding naval defence. The Government attaches the greatest importance to the maintenance of full and effective liaison between the chiefs of staff of the two countries,” Mr Jones concluded.
