PENINSULA COUNTY
MONTHLY COUNCIL MEETING ( The monthly meeting of the Peninsula County Council, held yesterday . at Portobello, was attended by Crs J. W. Harbrow, chairman, D. Rutherford, W V. Sturmer. W. Brookman, T. S. Edmonds, J. J. Nyhon, R. G. Habershon, M. Geary, and D. J. S. Robertson. i The clerk, Mr J. Seaton, submitted - a report on the work done during the month in the various ridings. The report was adopted. - An application by Mr R. W. Hessey for the use of a disused road was granted during the pleasure of the council. A request for the formation of a footpath was received from Mr J. F. King. Waverley, and the matter was held over until the place should be inspected. The clearing of a creek on a ratepayer’s property was the subject of discussion, and it was decided to serve notice on the owner to remove a log which, it was stated, was a potential source of danger to a culvert. The council was advised that the highways estimates for 1940-41 allowed £I2OO for maintenance of the DunedinPortobello highway and £250 for the Dunedin-Tomahawk road, as well as £lB for special work on the latter. The subsidy in each case was set at £3 for £l.—Received. Permits for buildings, of a total value of £3220. were issued. Mr A. Francis (Portobello) wrote complaining of gorse and broom in the Cemetery and the condition of the road to his property. There were references to the county clerk to which councillors took exception.—lt was decided to reply stating that the council resented the tone of the letter.
