PALMERSTON Golf Members of the St. Clair Club played a match with the Ardleigh members during the week-end at Palmerston. Walter Strang, Ltd., presented trophies for a medal round and also for a Stableford competition. The medal round was won by G. W. Thomson, of Ardleigh. with a net score of 70, and the Stableford was won by N. Allan, of St. Clair, with a score of 34. In the semi-final of the Men’s Club Championship H. G, Wooding beat H, North and G. W. Thomson beat A. M. Cochrane. Wooding and Thomson will now meet in the final of the Championship and also in the Knock-out Competition. Bowling Club
The annual meeting of the bowling club was held in the pavilion on Wednesday evening. The president (Mr W. B. Galloway) expressed satisfaction at 1 the financial position as disclosed by the balance sheet. The following officers were elected: President, Mr W, B. Galloway: vice-presi-dent, Mr H. Farquharson; secretary, Mr F. Robinson: assistant secretary, Mr R. Wilson; auditor, Mr J. A. Galloway: committee, Messrs L Barr, A. F. Low, J. Black, W. McLeod, D. Ross, R. Cameron, and W. McGregor; green committee, Messrs Cameron, Black, and McLeod; delegate' to North Otago Centre, Mr J. A. Dunbar (Opmaru): selectors, Messrs Barr, Mcßae, and J. Stewart; refreshment committee, Messrs W. McGregor and the secretary. Several new members were elected. The matter of fixing the opening date was left in the hands of the green committee. WAIMATE Gift to Third Echelon Walmate donated the drums for use in the Third Echelon Orchestra. The drums were purchased by a local business man, Mr D. Nevvali, in the certain knowledge that the town would contribute the money. Mr Newatl has now received a contribution of £8 towards the drums from the Mayor (Mr George Dash), this being half of the sum raised in a competition by Messrs B. F. Walker and H. Searle. The other £8 has been handed to tile Red Cross. Garden Competition The spring garden competition will this year be held about October 5, according to the decision of the Waimate Horticultural Society. Advice was received from Mr D. Tannock that he would give a lecture at a later date. Mr Palmer’s offer to give a lecture on narcissi was accepted. A donation towards the society’s funds was received from Mr T. Brownlie.
