THE MILITARY MEDAL
HOME GUARD MEMBER ACT OF BRAVERY RECOGNISED (British Official Wireless) RUGBY, Sept. 17 (Received Sept. 18, at 7.30 p.m.) The first occasion on which a military decoration was awarded to a member of the Home Guard is announced in the London Gazetie, Volunteer Jones receiving the Military Medal for an act of bravery officially described in these words: “Jones, a member of the guard posted in defence of a vital noint, was on guard when the post was bombed One man was killed and one seriously wounded. Jones, who himself was in a place of safety, on hearing the groans of the wounded man at once left the shelter and carried him on his back to a place of safety During this time bombs, debris, large pieces of steel work and heavy glass were still falling, but Jones carried out his task with complete disregard of his own safety."
