GALE IN CHANNEL
■CUFFS OF DOVER LASHED
EFFECT ON HITLER'S PLANS
LONDON, Sept. 17. (Received Sept. 18, at 11.30 p.m.) Autumn’s gales are beating tonight against the cliffs of Dover and it is too early to estimate the effect of the sudden weather change upon Hitler’s invasion plans, but a considerable effect is certain. Wild winds and rough seas would make an attempt to tow barges across the Channel a hazardous operation. A gale would also render dangerous attempted landings by troop-carry-ing planes. There is no encouragement for Hitler in the huge seas crashing on the beaches and promenades of the south-east coast, where thousands of the inhabitants of battered towns are carrying on undaunted by the fiercest air raids
