Every gar. ment displayed, from sports frock to evening gown, had been designed and made in New Zealand, and the result fully merited the applause of the delighted spectators. Not one of the models was an imported one, though many must have found this fact difficult to believe. The parade was sponsored by the D.I.C. and the Savoy in aid of the funds of the Queen, and was repealed yesterday. The final showing will take place this afternoon. The Navy Queen (Miss Jessie McLennan) made a personal appearance on the stage, wearing a distinctive black ensemble and shoulder spray of lily-of-the-valley. She was presented with a lovely bouquet of daffodils and other spring flow'ers. The running commentary was spoken by Mrs Crocombe. of the D.1.C., whose descriptions of the many beautiful garments displayed were enlivened by manv entertaining asides. She. too. wore black, her topper hat having a smart cockade. The mannequins, appearing in, turn, walked between the tea-tables down the length and breadth of the hall. The display was notable for attention to detail —stockings, handbags, coiffures, make-up. etc.—-and it was also an object lesson in deportment. There were several changes of costume, and each seemed to be more appealing than the last. Some of the loveliest were in wool. A special feature was the culotte (trouser-skirt) suit, and much interest was excited in ensembles which showed the‘ effective alliance of related colours, such as violet and mulberry. The pageant included a picture frock and hat worn by Miss Joyce Throp, a siren suit in blue, worn by Miss Jocelyn Tapley. a “young matron” frock of real silk and a black coat richly lined with taffeta. worm by Mrs Holden Mirams, a regal evening gown of Chantilly lace with cyclamen-shaded corsage flowers, worn by Mrs Wakefield Holmes, an all black evening . frock with transparent net yoke, worn by Miss Peggy Brewer, a striking gown in magenta moire, worn by Mrs Stephen Reeves; a primrose net frock with hand-knitted bolero in hyacinth blue angora, worn by Miss Lola Johnston; a cape of military cut in cerise over a gown of pale grey satin, worn by Miss Winifred Smith; a floral frock with cleverly cut black coat designed for the matronly figure and worn by Miss Margaret Matheson. becoming culottes, worn by Miss Mary Reeves; a useful and decorative culotte suit, worn by Mrs Adeline Shield; and several dainty children’s frocks, worn by Pamela Mirams and Elizabeth Ann Jones. , „ At the close of the display, all those Who had taken part were presented with bouquets, the gifts of FiOnana.” •
