ENGAGEMENTS
The engagement is announced between Sapper J. W. Porteous (17th R.0.C., third echelon overseas), only son of Mr and Mrs J- Porteous, of Laing street, Dunedin, and Mabel Delaney, youngest daughter of Mr and Mrs C. Cross, of Wyckliffe Bay. •y. -v * The engagement is announced between Ronald Peter, pnly son of Mr and Mrs P. J. Hughes, of Thames Highway, Oamaru, and Irene Muriel, only daughter of Mr and Mrs Brooks, of O’Fea street, Dalmore. The monthly meeting of the Tahakopa Institute took place on Thursday last, when Mrs J. Stoddart was in the chair. The motto ’was “ Promise oneself to think only the best, to work only for the best, and to expect the best,” and the roll call, “ Uses for a safety pin.” Miss C. Skey demonstrated bn “ Faggotting,” and showed how effectively this stitch could be used in blouse trimming, Mrs Anglem moved a vote of thanks. The competitions resulted:—Handkerchief from a saltbag—Mrs Silcock 1, Mrs Harrington 2; bloom—Mrs Silcock 1. Mesdames Stott, and Harrington (equal) 2. Mrs Silcock served supper.
