FINE AND COLD Forecast for Otago.— The following official weather forecast for Otago, covering the ensuing 24 hours, was issued at 5 p.m. yesterday by the Meteorological Office in Wellington:— Moderate winds, varying from between east and south. Weather fair to fine and cold. Seas moderate. Dominion Forecast. —A vigorous depression is centred over Gisborne district and is moving slowly towards the east. An, anti-cyclonc covers southeastern Australia and the north Tasman Sea. Weather unsettled in eastern districts between East Cape and Banks Peninsula, with rain at times. Changeable and showery over the remainder of the North Island and Southland. Elsewhere fair to fine. Temperatures cold, with snow on the ranges of .the North Island. Hard frosts in the southern half of the South Island. Weather in Dunedin: The sun shone brightly yesterday for over 10 hours and a-half, but there 'was a light to moderate north-east breeze apd temperatures were only ihild, the maximum being 53 degrees. The barometer fell sharply in the morning, but was steady at midnight at 29.95 inches (1014 millibars). Barometer, inches and millibars: 8 a.m., 30.00 (1016); noon, 29.85 (1011); 6 p.m., 29.95 (1014);. midnight, 29.95 (1014). Thermometer: 8 a.m., 42 degrees; noon, 51 degrees; 6 p.m., 46 degrees; midnight, 46 degrees. Maximum, 53 degrees; minimum, 37 degrees. Rainfall for 24 hours ended midnight yesterday—nil.
