EFFORTS TO SETTLE DISPUTE LIAISON OFFICER'S VISIT <Peh United Press Association) AUCKLAND, Sept. 13. The intervention at the instance of the Government of Mr C. L. Hunter, Labour Department liaison officer, in the dispute at the MacDonald and Glen Alton collieries, which has resulted in nearly 400 men stopping work, was the only new development to-day. No work was done at either mine. Soon after his arrival from Wellington this morning, Mr Hunter conferred with Mr T. Hall, secretary of the Northern Miners' Union. He also met the management of the collieries. In the afternoon Mr Hunter met the executive of the local union and their deliberations extended over three hours and a-half. In a statement to-night, Mr Hall said that as a result of the conference a special meeting of members of the MacDonald and Glen Afton branches of the union would bo held to-morrow morning, when the men would be addressed by Mr Hunter.
