ANTI-SEMITISM

DENOUNCED BY MR JUSTICE O’REGAN ROMAN CATHOLIC VIEWPOINT (Per United Press Association; AUCKLAND, Sept. 12. A strong attack on anti-Semitism was made to-day by Mr Justice O’Regan in an address on “ The Study of History ” at the Catholic Men’s Luncheon Club. He said he must refer to antiSemitism, which characterised modern dictatorships, and had sympathisers elsewhere. Catholic citizens did not need to be told that the Holy Family, the 12 Apostles, and a great majority of the early Christians belonged to the Hebrew race. . : “The great St. Paul, Apostle of the Gentiles, was a patriotic Hebrew,’’ the speaker said, “and often preached in synagogues. “ In the Catholic Church there is no room for racialism,or colour-bar. The Gospel message is meant for every creature, and so one race is as good as another. In this attitude we cannot do better than adopt the lead given recently by our Holy Father, the Pope. His Holiness appointed a commission of scientific men to inquire into the age of the earth. One of them was a Hebrew. That was the Pope's reply to the anti-Semitism of Hitler and Mussolini, and members of the Catholic community could not do better than follow it.’ -
