Mr Harry Foote left by the express yesterday morning en route for England, where he is to go into training with the Fleet Air .Arm. Members of the Kiwi Amateur Swimming Club met on Tuesday night to bid farewell to Mr W. S. Hindmarsh, of the Municipal Baths staff, who is to leave shortly for Trentham with the Fourth Reinforcements. The president (Mr Don Watson) made a presentation of a fountain pen to Mr Hindmarsh and wished him a safe return Captain V G. Webb, marine superintendent of the Union Steam Ship Company, and Mr F Scott Miller, the company’s repairs superintendent, have returned to Wellington from a visit to Australia The Right Rev. H. St. Barbe Holland, Bishop of Wellington, who •recently underwent an operation, has now returned to his home from hospital. After a short stay at Bishopscourt Wellington, his Lordship will go away to continue his convalescence

Mr K. Gunji who was Consulgeneral for Japan in Wellington till his transfer to a similar post in Honolulu at the beginning of this year has been recalled to Tokio. He and his family will leave Honolulu about the middle of this month The Dominion Commander of the Home Guard. Major-general Robert Young. C. 8.. C.M.G., D. 5.0.. who is at present on a visit to Dunedin, met members of the Dunedin Returned Soldiers’ Association executive, the Mayor (Mr A. H. Allen), and officials of thb local Emergency Precautions Scheme yesterday and attended a parade of the National Reserve battalion last night Cr E. J. McLauchlan. chajrman of the Reserves and Town Planning Committee of the Invercargill City Council, who will join the Fourth Reinforcements, was given a farewell at a meeting of the council on Tuesday night The Deputv Mayor (Mr J. B. Martin) said Cr McLauchlan had given a' great deal of thought to the business of the council. He had been an enthusiastic worker, and had been popular with all the councillors. Similar tributes were paid by other councillors, and the Deputy Mayor presented Cr McLauchlan with a set of hair brushes.
