AUCKLAND CARPENTERS

MEETING OF UNION ELECTION OF OFFICERS (Per United Press Association) AUCKLAND, Sept. 11. Six hundred members attended th« annual meeting of the Auckland Carpenters and Joiners’ Union in the Trades Hall last night, the president (Mr J. McCormack) being in the chair. The proceedings were orderly, but there were keen discussions on contentious matters. Principal interest centred in the election of officers in the key positions, arid several changes were made. The voting was by postal ballot, and the results were not-known until early this, morning, when the checking was finished. ■ ’ • " • The vote for ■ president rwas , .taken in the ha'll, Mr McCormack being reelected by 243 votes to 225 recorded for Mr T. Kelly, who was president several years ago. The postal-ballots resulted in a change of secretaryship, Mr C. Moor defeating the retiring secretary. Mr J. G. Kennerley, by 336 votes to 279. There were seven nominations for two vacancies on the executive. Mr W. H. Trembath did not stand again and was replaced by Mr T. P. O’Connor. For .the position of town organised, Mr R. Stanley was elected, defeating. . the temporary organiser, Mr R. Giles, by 427 to 201. Mr E. A. Waters was elected country organiser by 570 votes, almost a unanimous vote.
