FILM STAR CHANGES PERSONALITY
A change in coiffure may render a sensational transformation in a personality overnight. The latest example is Dorothy Lamour, who plays the leading feminine role in “ Disputed Passage.” In this picture she wears a jet black wig—taking a cue from Joan Bennett, who caused a sensation when she donned a black wig in “Trade Winds.” From a demure blonde she emerged as an exotic type. When Norma Shearer appeared on the screen in a blonde wig in “ Idiot’s Delight,” her popularity soared to unprecedented heights, although her personality had been established with film audiences for many years.
Even now Paramount studio officials
are predicting a new Dorothy Lamour. and they expect a rapid increase in her fan mail, which is already among the Hollywood leaders in volume. “ Disputed Passage ” marks the greatest dramatic role the star has. yet played. Her most recent picture was “Man About Town.” in which she played the feminine lead.
