SHIPS AT BRITAIN’S DISPOSAL
GREATER THAN AT OUTSET (By Wireless) DAVENTRY, Sept. 10. The Admiralty announces that the shipping losses for the week ended September 1 amounted to 84,000 tons, consisting of 11 British ships totalling 56,000 tons, five Allied vessels totalling 15,000 tons, and four neutral ships totalling 13,500 tons. The total British and Allied losses for the first year of the war amounted to approximately 1,500,000 tons, but the mercantile fleet at Britain’s disposal is still greater than it t was at the beginning of the war. 'During the past 12 months Germany and Italy have lost L 250.000 tons of shipping.
