EARLY SETTLERS

MONTHLY MEETING OF COMMITTEE The monthly meeting of the committee of the Otago Early Settlers’ Association was held yesterday, when there were present Messrs W. J. Strong (president), E. Webster, H. Baron, D. J. C alder, F H. Campbell. A. F. Cheyne, W. R. Brugh, J. Dey. W. H. Ferens, and A. E. Selby. . The following gifts were received, and votes of thanks were passed tosthe donors; —From L. Pavleticn, Hakataramea, framed portraits of his late parents, Mr and Mrs Thomas Pavletich, arrived Otago 1860’s. Mrs J. Pullar, Waitati, a framed photograph of her late father’s chemist shop (J. Wilson), Princes street. Dunedin, as it was in 1850’s (now Wilkinson's chemist); also her father’s diary, which he compiled on the voyage of the ship Clutha, 1854; a bound volume of “The Children’s Missionary Record of the Free Church of Scotland,” published Edinburgh. 1846; and a number of interesting photographs. E. M. Samson, Swansea, England (per Mr James Begg, Roslyn), a water-colour of Port Chalmers as it was in 1852. Mrs A. Rennie, Mornington, framed portraits of her late parents, Mr and Mrs P Broad. Roxburgh (father arrived 1865, mother arrived 1866). Mrs N Williamson. Waitati. framed portraits of her late parents, Mr and Mrs Robert Hyslop Robert Henderson, 1860. The following deaths of early settlers were recorded during the month: — Miss Elizabeth Erridge. Ravensbourne (89). arrived 1860’s; Thomas S. Cairns, Dunedin (late Kaitangata: 89k arrived 1860’s; the Rev W. H. Ash. Melbourne (82), arrived Otago 1860’s; Francis Moyle, Lawrence (100). arrived 1860’s; Mrs Annie McLaughlin (nee Cahill), Lawrence (82). arrived 1862; George Todd. Dunedin (91). Chariot of Fame, 1862; Mrs Mary Blair (nee Wright) Dunedin (86), Maori, 1857; Mrs H. Sutcliffe. Dunedin (79), arrived 1864; Mrs Elizabeth Barrowman. Dunedin (97). arrived 1860.
