SOCIAL SECURITY
ro THE EDITOR Sir.—l would like to know the exact benefits received from the Social Security Scheme in the matter of hospital treatment. My husband’s' wages on paper are £4 17s 6d a week. From them are deducted 9s 6d for wage tax and Is for union tax, and every three months the 5s levy has to be paid. These amounts taken from the weekly wage total at least 11s. so that the actual wage is £4 6s 6d. Through ill-health, I had to go to the Public Hospital for an X-ray plate, and an account of £2 10s is sent to me for it. What I want to know is where the benefit, of the Social Security comes in' and what we are paying for.—l am, etc.. L, D. B. [Treatment of a person who is an inmate of a public hospital is free, but payment must be made for outdoor treatment.—Ed. O.D.T.]
