DUNEDIN FRENCH CLUB
ADDRESS ON INDO-CHINA The Dunedin French Club met on Monday evening at the Girls’ High School. Mr T. J. Arnold, the speaker for the evening, chose as his subject one of the most interesting colonies of the French Empire, Indo-China. He outlined briefly its strategic importance, its history, its ancient customs, and the French methods of developing the country. Then followed a sketch of the main geographical regions, of the numerous tropical products and industrial activity, and descriptions of living conditions in the principal towns and ports, as given by. various French authors, including Pierre Loti. Finally, reference was made to the latest reports of the possibilities and potentialities of Indo-China as a centre of prospective international disputes. The second item of the evening s programme was a short play entitled “ Speak to Me No More of Allah,” the parts being taken by Mesdames Bellugue and King, and bv Messrs Bellugue, Arnold, MacNish, Wood and Dunbar.
