A SOUTHLAND SCHEME ; SAVED FOB PRODUCTION (Special to Daily Times) ■■•' INVERCARGILL, Sept. •• , A scheme for saving good heifer calves so that dairying production in Southland may be increased has been brought into operation by the Southland Calf Pool Committee, which began its first collections of bobby calves for the season last week. The. committee received a good response to. its inquiry whether dairy farmers would be prepared to make available to "other farmers heifer calves of specially good quality which might otherwise be slaughtered. With the first collection of,: calves last Thursday a number of these calves were handed over to the cartage contractors specially labelled and were promptly delivered to their- new owners. The scheme will result in the saving of a. substantial number of calves which would probably hava been sent to the freezing.works had na other arrangements been made for thait disposal.
